Aldo Castillo has curated since the early years of his career, at his own gallery and for others: the American Art Pavilion at Art Shanghai, the Miami International Art Fair, and Guatemalan Colonial Jewelry at the Museo Popol Vuh in Guatemala City. He represents 84 artists from Naples, Florida.

What a curatorial engagement covers

Five parts of a show, and who carries them.

Exhibition concept and curation: A show argued from the work outward: the artists, the sequence, the walls. Hundreds of exhibitions stand behind the method.
Site specific and corporate programmes: Art chosen for a particular building, lobby or campus, and installed so that it can live there.
Catalogue and text: The essay, the checklist and the wall labels, so the exhibition can still be read years after it comes down.
Artist studio access: Visits to the studios of the artists the gallery represents, in the United States and across Latin America.
Loans and institutional partnerships: Works placed with museums, fairs and public projects, and the agreements and condition reports that go with them.

How it works

Four steps from a room to an opening.

You describe the space and the occasion.
The architecture, the audience, the dates, and what the exhibition is meant to do.
Aldo proposes a concept and a checklist.
An argument for the show, the artists it needs, and the works that are actually available for it.
The gallery secures the work.
Negotiation with artists, estates and lenders, then insurance, crating and freight.
We install it, and we write it down.
Hanging and lighting on site, with a catalogue, labels and photographs that outlast the show.
