The work in depth
American Flag
This textile installation by American artist Javier Guadalupe reinterprets the American flag through movement, dimension, and layered fabric. Constructed with more than nine individual textile layers, each mounted over plywood and wrapped in the same textile, the work is designed to create a suspended, three-dimensional effect. Each panel hangs from a metal wall plate secured by two large pin-like screws, with approximately a ½-inch separation between each layer.
