About the exhibition
Beyond the Mundane, Buttons In Art was a solo show of Augusto Esquivel in the gallery's Master Series, from 7 to 28 February 2024.
Esquivel works in sewing buttons, monofilament and acrylic, hanging thousands of buttons in suspended planes so that an image assembles itself as the viewer moves. The show gathered his versions of Van Gogh's self portrait and of a woman in a blue hat, an American flag, a vase of flowers, and the mop and mop bucket that give the show its title: the ordinary object taken seriously.
