The work in depth
Strata I
This painting by American Artist Scott Ashley is a minimalist abstract composition composed of nine distinct, horizontally stacked bands or "strata" stretching completely across the canvas. Rather than using rigid geometric tape lines, the bands feature organic, slightly wavy edges that highlight the physical presence of the artist's hand.
Color Palette: The composition uses a structured yet soothing palette dominated by deep navy blue, various shades of gray, absolute black, stark white, and a soft pastel sky blue.
