Lost In Translation

Overall dimensions: 72 x 72 in. (6 x 6 ft.) or 36 x 144 in. (3 x 12 ft.) Composed of 4 square panels, each measuring 36" x 36", this painting was created during Scott Ashley's temporary residency in Florida after spending many years living and working in Chicago. The repeating, mirrored imagery of the palm tree fronds reflects the psychological themes of relocation, displacement, and adaptation. The piece explores how regional plant life inherently defines our sense of place, and how individuals navigate and adjust to entirely unfamiliar landscapes, spaces, and climates.
