Tomaso Albertini

Tomaso Albertini (born 1984, Milan, Italy) is a visual artist whose practice sits at the intersection of painting, sculpture and material-driven research. He is known for a distinctive three-dimensional technique in which cardboard, often cut into triangular elements, is assembled directly onto canvas and then painted, producing hybrid works that exist between image and object.

Cardboard has been a foundational material in Albertini's practice from the start. Adopted as both a formal and a conceptual choice, it works as a social and structural metaphor: a byproduct of consumer culture, commonly discarded, yet capable of bearing weight, tension and complexity. Through the repeated use of triangular cardboard forms he has developed a visual language that lets him shape compositions sculpturally while keeping the expressive possibilities of painting. Over time the triangle has grown into what he calls temporal triangle architecture, an invented geometric system in which each triangular element stands for a discrete moment of time, capable of expanding into space through interaction and movement, so that the work engages questions of time, mass and relational structure while remaining grounded in material practice.

Born and trained in Milan, Albertini earned a B.A. in Illustration and Fine Arts at Scuola del Fumetto, where he built a strong foundation in drawing, composition and visual storytelling. In 2015 he relocated to New York City, where the city's density, its contrast of wealth and poverty and its material excess became a primary source of inspiration, shaping his choice of mediums and color palettes and reinforcing his interest in reuse, construction and spatial tension.

His work has been exhibited by galleries in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Dubai, Milan, Venice and Turin, is held in private collections, and has been presented at art fairs including Art Basel, Scope Miami and Urban Art Fair NYC. In 2018 Sotheby's selected him as the featured artist for its Old Masters Meet the Street project. After eight years in New York City, Albertini now lives and works in Naples, Florida. Alongside his studio work he is a vocal proponent of art's potential to drive meaningful change, collaborating with and supporting nonprofit organizations such as Rainforest Alliance, Mission Blue and Fabien Cousteau's Ocean Learning Center.
