J. P. Vallen was a 19th-century Austrian or German artist associated with mid-19th-century portraiture.
In the United States he is particularly represented by a pair of finely executed portraits of children, Portrait of a Boy and Portrait of a Girl, both dated 1854. The pair passed through the Susquehanna Antique Company and has been offered through Christie's; the works are now in a private collection.
