David Zalben

David Zalben is an American artist whose career spans several decades, beginning in photography and evolving into wire sculpture. He worked as a professional photographer from 1982 to 2002 and in 1996 established a "selective" focus technique in photography. In those years he received a Silver award from Communication Arts Magazine (1996), a Gold Medal at the New York Festivals in New York (1997) and Revista Claudia's "Best Material of the Year" in Brazil (2000).

From 1996 to 1998 Zalben was owner and director of WestBone Gallery in Chicago, where he also showed his own work. His solo exhibitions have been held in Chicago in the 1990s, in São Paulo, Brazil, between 2000 and 2004, at Adriana Hoyos in Miami in 2007 and, with Wire My World, at Karin Weber Gallery in Hong Kong in 2012. He has taken part in art fairs including ArteBA in Buenos Aires and Palm Beach Art Fair 3 with Karpio/Facchini Gallery, the Armory-Pool Art Fair in New York and the Wynwood Art Fair in Miami.

Since 2005 he has taught photography at ArtCenter/South Florida in Miami Beach, and since 2006 he has been an artist in residence there. His work bridges photography and wire sculpture.
