Andrés López del Castillo

Andrés López del Castillo is a Colombian contemporary sculptor, born in 1985. He is known for witty, conceptually rich works that compress iconic pop-culture figures such as Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio and LEGO bricks into perfect geometric cubes.

Working in polychrome resin and mixed media, he interrogates the mythology of mass consumer culture, childhood and collective memory. The cube recurs throughout his sculpture as a device for containing and questioning popular imagery, suggesting that cultural icons, rather than expanding outward, ultimately collapse inward upon themselves.
