Art is alive and well at Aldo Castillo Gallery as the gallery has been positively received since opening its doors at the new Naples location.

To celebrate their first season on 5th Avenue South and the 28th anniversary of the first Aldo Castillo Gallery opening in Chicago in May 1993, art lovers and collectors are invited to the first official opening and featured artist celebration on May 13, 2021 from 11 to 9pm at the gallery’s Naples, location. 

​The show, ART MOVES, MARLENE ROSE GLASS SCULPTURES, will feature the works of Marlene Rose who is an internationally known award-winning sculptor who produces stunningly beautiful works of art in her chosen medium, sand-cast glass.  The show will run until August 31, 2021.

Rose’s art is seen in museums and galleries across the US and Europe, and her works are sought after by glass connoisseurs, fine art collectors and Hollywood A-list celebrities. Each piece is hand cast from molten glass into a unique modern work of art that resonates with references and allusions to ancient cultures and civilizations.
This first gallery event will also coincide with the ever-popular Evening on 5th event and to ensure social distancing, the gallery will be celebrating all day long to space out guests.  Champagne will be sponsored by Fifth Third Bank and musical entertainment will be provided by 5th Avenue South.

Aldo Castillo Gallery represents established international artists, and serves private collectors, museum collections and design professionals. The new additions to the gallery include hyper-realistic American artist Tony Chimento, Italian sculptor Daniele Fortuna, and North Korean painter and installation artist Keiko Hara.

The internationally well-known art gallery – the Aldo Castillo Gallery debuted on 5th Avenue South in late 2020 with the goal of introducing Neapolitans to the Aldo Castillo Gallery as one of the world's leading contemporary art galleries offering paintings, photography, drawings, sculpture, works on paper, digital art and new media installations.

Ramon Chirinos was born in 1950 in Falcon, Venezuela is considered one of the most influential Latin American masters of the 20th century. In his work, Chirinos blends native tradition and European influences to produce distinctive masterpieces.

The work of Greek artist Apostol Nikolakopoulos, a former economist, who signs his work simply "Apostol," it is easy to see the far-reaching influence of American capitalism in his country, which has been suffering a dire financial crisis. It is far more challenging to understand how this former economist also translates metal and glass into complex interpretations of the sea and nature.

Faces in time is an exhibition devoted to the interpretations of humans, animals and nature faces by well-known international artists. 

The exhibition explores unconventional representation in aspects of portraiture, and the role portraits play in the development of radical art styles and methods. These portraits were created as part of an ongoing experimentation as search for a pictorial language to capture the intense perceptions we humans have of ourselves and of the world. 

The exhibition brings together some 75 works created by artists from around the world. Including two children portraits by Austrian/German J. P. Vallen created in 1854. Also animal drawings by South African Lorna Marsh and American Virginia Fifield.

Several paintings, drawings, photographs, mixed media and sculptures are exclusive to the Aldo Castillo Gallery. 
The exhibition is curated by Aldo Castillo, Director and Founder of the Aldo Castillo Gallery. Aldo Castillo, who has received numerous awards and whose portfolio includes more than 350 international art exhibitions, has more than 30 years of diverse experience in the art world; he has worked as a museum curator, artist, art dealer and director of several international art fairs. His inspiration is captured by the famous words of artist Marina Abramovic: “The function of the artist in a disturbed society is to give awareness of the universe, to ask the right questions, and to elevate the mind.”

Castillo notes: “I am considered a human rights activist. The reason I founded the gallery is because art is the best tool to reflect on issues that we all deal with. I [become] interested in artists for a combination of their skills and their messages, global topics themes: animals, women, the environment, discrimination. These issues are worldwide, and that is what makes them international masters.”

The Aldo Castillo Gallery will celebrate China with artwork and events exploring the country’s zodiac and the opening of a major exhibition of historical Chinese antiquities never before seen by the public. “Ancient Chinese Secrets” begins Nov. 9 with an evening reception, a zodiac presentation and the official unveiling of the private museum-quality collection now for sale through the Aldo Castillo Gallery.

Winslow Bud Johnson, author of “Chinese Zodiac Art,” will discuss the mysteries and origins of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals as seen in the illustrations by Tiffany Chang, a Naples artist. The Taipei, Taiwan-born Chang has translated the 12 Chinese zodiac images to her own line of clothing, pillows and kimonos. Aldo Castillo Gallery will offer Chang originals for sale.
For the exhibit, Castillo has also commissioned paintings by South African artist Lorna Marsh and Scott Ashley whose work will delve into the five Zodiac- accompanying elements of fire, water, wood, earth and metal.

The opening reception with Johnson is Friday, November 9 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Miromar Design Center, located across from Miromar Outlets. Johnson’s discussion begins at 6 p.m. Ancient Chinese Secrets continues through Feb. 5, 2019 – the beginning of the Chinese New Year and the year of the pig. Johnson said many people identify more with the lunar based Chinese zodiac than they do the Western astrological signs. The zodiac is represented by 12 animals; each believed to have its own characteristics influencing fortune, health, love and success. “It’s so amazing how it works,” he said. “It just blows me away when people tell me they’re just like the animal or know someone else who is.”

For many Chinese, the zodiac is so powerful; they plan pregnancies to coincide with favorable signs. The most revered is the dragon. “2012 was the last year of the dragon and the birth rate was up 5 percent,” Johnson said, noting 25 percent of the world’s population is influenced by the Chinese zodiac. Johnson, a Naples resident, has traveled extensively throughout China the past 30 years, often leading group tours. He will present additional seminars at Miromar Design Center on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. and Friday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. reserved seating is suggested, as space is limited. The museum-quality antiquities collection, largely representing the Qing Dynasty (1644 to 1912) was recently acquired by Castillo’s gallery for representation. The most significant pieces are large Imperial cloisonné censers inlaid with jade. The collection also includes funerary urns, Buddhas and some furniture pieces. “This is the most important exhibit I’ve organized at Miromar Design Center,” said Castillo, who is internationally renowned art curator and a pioneer representative for established international contemporary artists.

The exhibition will remain open to the general public at the Aldo Castillo Gallery at the Miromar Design Center, Suite 390, Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
